High School Rowing

from $450-700

Spring Season: March 3 - May 23, 2025

High School Rowing

High School participation is open to current freshmen through seniors with or without rowing experience. You may select between the DEVELOPMENT and COMPETITIVE Program, based on your experience, goals, and the number of practices per week you are able to commit to.

DEVELOPMENT Program athletes will spend time practicing proper rowing technique, on- and off-water safety, and enjoying the river, while working together to build healthy team dynamics. It is ideal for first-year rowers and those looking to improve their rowing skills. There will be 1-3 races that are focused on Development Program rowers, allowing them to compete against others with similar skill levels.

COMPETITIVE Program athletes are expected to attend six practices per week, and some races will be limited to experienced program participants only. However, Competitive Program rowers will be able to attend all races, including the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia, PA.

REQUIRED WAIVERS:

To be reviewed & completed by athlete and parent/guardian TOGETHER at least once per calendar year:

The Release & Waiver Form above should be submitted by prior to the start of the first practice. Athletes will not be allowed on the water without having completed the form!

WHAT TO BRING / WEAR

  • Any medical devices (EpiPen, inhaler, etc.) in a waterproof bag

  • Water bottle

  • Hat and/or sunglasses

  • Suitable workout clothes that are comfortable for outdoor activity, with the possibility of wind and a bit of water;

  • Sneakers (for land workouts)

  • Layers and/or a change of clothes for afterward, if needed

  • Rain gear, depending on the weather

WHAT TO AVOID WEARING

  • Clothes that are overly baggy or bulky, which can get caught in the sliding tracks of the seat. Spandex is not necessary, but clothes that are reasonably form-fitting are ideal for rowing.

  • Cotton. Cotton does not insulate when wet, dries slowly, and performs best on land. Basic tech fabrics such as polyester and fleece can take the occasional splash and will keep you more comfortable on the water.

  • Valuable or otherwise irreplaceable clothes. While rowing is not a particularly rough sport, it does involve carrying things on shoulders, close encounters with river water, and perhaps an occasional run-in with the aforementioned seat tracks. Outfit accordingly.
