SAFETY

Coaches and counselors are certified in First Aid, CPR, SafeSport, and Boating Safety (where applicable). They are also subject to a full criminal background check.

SCRC is located at an ideal location on the Allegheny River, offering the calmest stretch of water in Pittsburgh. Nonetheless, river and weather conditions are monitored regularly, and we take every possible measure to ensure that everyone enjoys their time on the water safely. If conditions are not safe or conducive for safe outdoor practice or programming, we will move the practice, program, camp, or event indoors.

We strive to educate and empower our members with clear safety guidelines and expectations and regularly scheduled safety meetings. Our Safety Committee helps ensure best practices among rowers, coaches, and other community members. We hold Safety Meetings twice per year for Juniors, and once per year for Masters.
