SAFETY
IT’S EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY.
Safety is a top priority at SCRC. All of our coaches are trained in Boating Safety, First Aid/CPR, and SafeSport. We strive to educate and empower our Members with clear safety guidelines and expectations and regularly scheduled safety meetings.
Our Safety Committee helps ensure best practices among rowers, coaches, and other community members. This Committee has recently revised our Safety Manual and will be working to further improve our safety processes and documentation in the coming year. For questions, or to contribute, please contact the Safety Committee Chair, Tiffiny Faith.
We hold Safety Meetings twice per year for Juniors, and once per year for Masters. Check our Calendar for more information.
Below you will find links to our recently revised Safety Manual, Water Safety Matrix, and Incident Reporting Form.
SAFETY MANUAL
All rowers and coxswains are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Safety Manual. Coaches, as well as individuals who row without a coach, will be required to demonstrate a strong grasp of the information and guidelines herein.
SAFETY MATRIX
JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN ROW
DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD.
THERE ARE MANY FACTORS - Wind, Precipitation, Boat Traffic, Fog, Air Temperature, etc.
Review SCRC’s Safety Matrix to find out how we assess risk:
INCIDENT REPORTING FORM
Reportable incidents are any occurrence of personal injury (whether or not they require immediate medical treatment), equipment damage (minor or major), and/or an on-water collision. This includes “near misses." A near miss is an unintentional incident that could have caused serious damage, injury or collision, but was narrowly avoided.
NOTE: Sexual Misconduct should be reported directly to local authorities, and then reported to SafeSport here.
All submissions are reviewed by the SCRC Director and Safety Committee.
Alternatively, you can speak with a coach, employee, board member, or safety committee member, or leave a written report in the mailbox outside the Community Room.
NOTE: If your incident resulted in equipment damage, please notify a coach in person or via email.
