WHAT TO BRING

REQUIRED TO BRING:

  • Closed-toe shoes

  • Swim suit

  • Water bottle

  • Emergency meds (EpiPen, inhaler, etc.) in a Ziploc bag

SUGGESTED TO BRING:

  • Hat and/or sunglasses

  • Sunscreen

  • Change of clothes

  • Sandals/water shoes

Athletes should bring clothes that are comfortable for outdoor activity, with the possibility of wind and a bit of water.

Here are a few things to avoid:

  • Clothes that are overly baggy or bulky. Baggy and bulky clothes can get in the way while rowing, and even get caught in the sliding tracks of the seat. Spandex is not necessary, but clothes that are reasonably slim-fitting are ideal for rowing.

  • Cotton. Cotton does not insulate when wet, dries slowly, and performs best on land. Basic tech fabrics such as polyester and fleece can take the occasional splash and will keep you more comfortable on the water.

  • Valuable or otherwise irreplaceable clothes. While rowing is not a particularly rough sport, it does involve carrying things on shoulders, close encounters with river water, and perhaps an occasional run-in with the aforementioned seat tracks. Outfit accordingly. You will earn more style points with beautiful form than with a designer wardrobe!

LOCATION & SAFETY

SCRC is located at an ideal location on the Allegheny River, offering the calmest stretch of water in Pittsburgh. Our “pool” is home to several islands (including a State Park), and beautiful tree-lined shores home to beavers, bald eagles, and post-industrial relics.

Coaches and counselors are certified in First Aid and CPR, and subject to a full criminal background check.

We take safety seriously! River and weather conditions are monitored on an hourly basis. All activities are weather dependent, and camp will move inside for unsafe conditions.
