What is Battle of the Burgh?

  • This is the first of what we envision to be an annual event hosted by participating Pittsburgh-based rowing clubs on a rotating basis. The aim is to get Masters athletes some early summer racing experience in a unique format and foster inter-club ties among the broad Pittsburgh rowing community.

How to Register

  • Teams or individuals may register online using the button below, by Saturday, May 24.

Format

  • This year’s Battle of the Burgh will use a Grand Prix style format, which means:

    • All boats will race a time trial

    • Final race matchups (head-to-head) will be determined by the time trial regardless of boat size or configuration

    • There will be an early morning event and a mid-morning event, giving you the opportunity to race in two different lineups

    • If you race both times, that will mean a total of 4 times down the race course (i.e., Race 1 time trial, Race 1 final, Race 2 time trial, Race 2 final)

Tentative Schedule

  • 6:00 AM - Explanation of Course, Format, and Other Details

  • 6:30 AM Begin Launching Boats

  • 7:00-8:00AM - Time Trial 1

  • 8:00-8:30AM - Break to Determine Race 1 Matchups

  • 8:30AM-10:00AM - Race 1

  • 10:30-11:30 - Time Trial 2
