Open Rower Membership
Open Rower Coordinator:
Steel City Rowing Club recognizes the need among rowers ages 19-29 for affordable rowing programming. After being evaluated as an Advanced Rower, members can use club singles on their own within the SCRC safety parameters. This membership option includes participation in coached sessions.
The Open Rower Program offers the opportunity to train at a high level. Elite Rowing is a demographic that is under served in the Pittsburgh region and Steel City is excited to offer this program at an affordable price.
The goal of the program is to help rowers succeed at the National Level with eyes on the following races throughout the year: Elite Nationals, Club Nationals, Canadian Henley, USRowing Speed Orders, National Selection Regattas, and World Championship Trials.
Practices are scheduled to run daily, with up to eleven practices a week (though not all will be overseen by a coach). There may be one to two practices a day depending on the goals that are set by the individual participants. A minimum of 8 practices per week is highly recommended to see the results and benefit of training.
**Participation in each practice is not required, the Open Program is also open to rowers who simply seek a consistent program that operates at a higher level, but cannot participate more than a few times per week. If you are not interested in competing and would like to row more casually, please see our "Adult Programs" open to ages 18 and older. **
