Thanks to all of the friends of the Verona Riverfront Project for your generosity and your help in raising funds for the "green" boathouse, park area, parking and docks. This is on its way to being a true recreational destination for kids and adults from across the county.
Here's an update on where things stand:
The total cost of the project is $1.6 million, of which $724,000 has been raised from:
Allegheny County Verona Riverfront Project's first funder, which contributed funding for the new docks.
Steel City Rowing Club Members and Board Through a generous challenge grant and your contributions following events hosted by the Tuttle-Smiths and Uretskys, you have donated the funds to purchase the property.
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Through the amazing efforts of Sen. Jay Costa, Rep. Frank Dermody, and Rep. Tony Deluca, the State has made a substantial commitment in the form of a matching grant.
Friends of the Riverfront August 25, 2008 12:24 PM eir contributions to the dock, the new kayak rack, the signage, the landscaping, and through their partnership in planning the entire project.
Laurel Foundation This organization saw the environmental and educational impact of this project and gave Steel City Rowing Club a generous grant.
Howard and Nell E. Miller Foundation Many thanks to our first foundation donor!
The Shea Foundation This foundation contributed the funding needed to extend the dock, following damage from flooding.
Other individuals and businesses They have allowed us to finish the main dock and build the fishing dock.
Neighbors, friends, & SCRC volunteers We depend on the in-kind contributions of neighbors who allow us to use a warehouse until the boathouse is built; an architect at CMU who is helping us design the "green" boathouse; and the valuable donations of time, graphic design, printing, engineering, and legal expertise from the talented volunteers who make up SCRC.
We invite you to join us in this project, which has such potential for Verona and the region as a whole. Your help would be greatly appreciated in any of the following ways:
- Financial contributions toward construction of the boathouse, with naming opportunities for the bays, weight room, community room, and the boathouse itself.
- In-kind contributions of materials for the building.
- Labor in the construction of the boathouse and for the grounds that connect it with the docks.
