Steel City Rowing’s Competitive Camps are designed for rowers focused on achieving a high level of success at USRowing's Club National Championship. The practices are rigorous and led by two of our highest level coaches. During training, rowers will have the opportunity to refine their technique both in small sculling and sweep boats, while building strength and endurance. Athletes will be trained with on-the-water skill development and plenty of video feedback. This camp is guaranteed for athletes to arrives back at their respective programs a fitter and more well-rounded athlete.
- Zach Petronic is a two-time national team member. He competed in the 2013 and 2015 World University Games in the men's eight and the single respectively, and finished 17th in the single at Olympic Trials in 2016. He began rowing in 2006 at North Allegheny High School. Previously Zach served as the head coach for Pine Richland High School and assistant coach for Pittsburgh Rowing Club.
- Lauren Schall is the Varsity Women's Coach at the University of Pittsburgh and an Assistant Coach of Central Catholic High School in addition to being Steel City's boathouse keeper and coach. She has rowed for six years at the University of Pittsburgh, on Vesper Boat Club's U23 squad, and is now an elite open rower at Steel City. During her rowing career, she has earned a gold in the Women's 2- at collegiate nationals, as well as golds in the 8+ and 4+ at USRowing Club Nationals and silver at the Canadian Henley in both the Senior 8+ and 4-.
The Open and Elite Rower Club Nationals Camp is open to athletes ages 18-29. The camp will run from June 5th to July 12th and rowers will train at the Steel City Rowing Club facility in Verona, PA. The practices will be held twice daily on a semi-flexible schedule based on the participant's availability and will follow a training plan created by the Steel City coaching staff. The morning session will be coached and the afternoon practice can be done as a group arranged around work schedules or individually according to the training plan.
The fee covers coaching, racing fees, facility access, and boat transport to the course. Participants will be responsible for their own lodging, food, and transportation to and from the racecourse. Steel City is happy to assist all participants in finding their local lodging. Racks are available if bringing a personal boat. The fee also covers an additional month of Open Rower membership after the conclusion of Club Nationals for athletes who want to continue to train and/or participate at the Royal Canadian Henley (RCH Fees Additional).
The Practice Schedule:
- Monday- Friday: 5:30am- 7:30am
- Saturday: 9-11am
- Monday- Thursday: 6-8pm (non coached, but athletes should gather at this time)

Register and pay the $250 deposits as soon as possible. The camp will only run with a minimum of 12 people. We require all participants adhere to the tenets of the Steel City Rowing Contract.
This fee includes a credit card service fee. You can avoid the additional fee by mailing or delivering a check made out to "Steel City Rowing Club" for $400 to 101 Arch Street, Verona, PA 15147.
